Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated Band 6, Specialist Physiotherapist to join the inpatient neuro rehabilitation team at Walkergate Park.  This is a fixed term contract for 12 months. 

Walkergate Park is a Level 1 neurorehabilitation centre, providing specialist, multidisciplinary rehabilitation for individuals with complex neurological conditions from across the North East and North Cumbria. Our service supports patients with a range of diagnoses including Traumatic Brain Injury and Stroke.

The successful candidate will work as part of a supportive multidisciplinary team, delivering specialist physiotherapy assessment and rehabilitation. You will contribute to the development and implementation of individualised treatment plans, working collaboratively with patients, families, and colleagues to optimise functional outcomes.

Key Requirements:

  •  Degree/Diploma in Physiotherapy
  •  Current registration with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC)
  • Experience in neuro rehabilitation
  • Sound knowledge of a range of neurological conditions and the rehabilitation process
  •  Excellent communication and team-working skills

Main duties of the job

To be responsible for the specialist assessment, management and physiotherapy service provision for service users who have a variety of complex physiotherapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of  Neurological conditions.


To manage and provide on-going specialist physiotherapy assessment and treatment using evidence based practice.


The post holder will work as a member of the multi-disciplinary team ensuring that high quality, individualised care is delivered and that this maximises independence and promotes recovery and wellbeing.


To facilitate the delivery of Physiotherapy Student Education within the clinical setting.


To provide compassionate care that is based on empathy, kindness, respect and dignity.


To provide clinical supervision and leadership to staff as delegated by the team lead

Person specification

Education and Qualification

Essential criteria
  • Recognised Physiotherapy degree qualification or equivalent
  • Registered with HCPC
  • Further relevant post qualifying training.
Desirable criteria
  • Member of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy

Knowledge and Experience

Essential criteria
  • Relevant Physiotherapy Experience with evidence of neurology experience
  • Experience of or awareness of MDT working
  • Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and CSP standards and other local and national initiatives
  • Proven track record of post registration clinical experience relevant to the post.
  • Experience of providing Physiotherapy services.

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Experience of assessment and treatment of neurological conditions including brain injury
  • Evidence of patient centred approach and knowledge of goal setting
  • Awareness of the impact of behaviour and cognitive problems on rehabilitation
  • Meets the mobility requirements of the post.
  • Specialist knowledge of different clinical presentations of acquired brain injury/neurological conditions and their impact on function
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence of post graduate neurology course
  • Experience of student and Physiotherapy assistant supervision
  • Experience of contributing to in-service training
  • Knowledge of audit and research, and implications for service provision
