An exciting opportunity has become available for a Band 5 Occupational Therapist to join the Sunderland Learning Disability Community Treatment Team on a full-time basis.
We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated therapist to work across the Mental Health and Positive Behaviour Support pathways. The successful candidate will carry out occupational therapy assessments and interventions under guidance of a senior occupational therapist.
Our team delivers a wide range of high quality, evidence-based assessments and treatments and you will be working within an experienced and supportive clinical team committed to delivering the highest standards of practice.
The post holder must have a strong commitment to their own personal and professional development.
A professional registration is needed for the role of Band 5 Occupational Therapist.
Main duties of the job
To provide occupational therapy service to service users who have a variety of occupational therapy needs, diverse presentations and a range of mental health conditions under the direction of a more experienced member of Occupational Therapy staff.
To manage and provide ongoing assessment and intervention for service users.
To consider carer needs and ensure carer and family are involved in intervention planning where appropriate.
To develop and deliver evidenced based Occupational Therapy interventions in collaboration with service users and carers where appropriate.
The post holder will work as a member of the Multi-disciplinary Team ensuring that high quality individualised care is delivered which ensure safety and a commitment to promoting recovery and wellbeing and maximising independence.
Coordinate Treatment Planning & Interventions, Reviews and Discharge Planning.

Education and Qualification
Essential criteria
- Recognised Occupational Therapy degree qualification
- Registered with HCPC
- Commitment to complete fieldwork education training.
Knowledge and Experience
Essential criteria
- Awareness and understanding of professional accountability, HCPC and RCOT standards and other local and national initiatives
- Experience of working with service users and carers in successful delivery of intervention plans
- Multi-disciplinary team work
- Knowledge of relevant contemporary professional theories of and evidence based interventions.
Skills and Competencies
Essential criteria
- Proven ability to develop therapeutic partnership with service users and carers.
- To provide evidence based therapeutic interventions
- Proven ability to be able to communicate interventions to service users.
- Demonstrate effective written and communication skills
- Ability to work under pressure
- Ability to work autonomously and within a team
