Job overview
This 12-month Advanced Clinical Training Fellowship in Multiple Sclerosis and Neuroinflammatory Disease is intended for neurology trainees within 12 months of CCT or within 12 months of completion of specialist training seeking advanced subspecialty training in the diagnosis and management of inflammatory neurological disorders.
The fellowship will provide advanced clinical exposure to multiple sclerosis, neurosarcoidosis neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders, MOG antibody-associated disease, autoimmune encephalitis, CNS vasculitis and related neuroimmunological conditions within a tertiary neurosciences service.
The successful candidate will gain experience in specialist outpatient clinics, disease-modifying therapy (DMT) prescribing and monitoring, multidisciplinary neurorehabilitation services and neuroimmunology MDT working. The fellowship will include training in the management of highly active and complex neuroinflammatory disease, including escalation therapies and biologic treatments.
The post holder will also be encouraged to participate in clinical research, national registries, audit and quality improvement activities, with opportunities to contribute to clinical trials and service development initiatives.
Main duties of the job
· Participate in specialist MS and neuroinflammatory disease outpatient clinics.
· Assess and manage patients with relapsing and progressive MS and other neuroinflammatory disorders.
· Develop expertise in disease-modifying therapy selection, initiation and monitoring.
· Participate in neuroimmunology multidisciplinary team meetings.
· Contribute to inpatient neurological consultations involving inflammatory neurological disease.
· Gain experience in the interpretation of neuroimaging, CSF analysis and immunological investigations relevant to neuroinflammatory disease.
· Participate in relapse management services and infusion therapy pathways.
· Contribute to patient education, service development and shared decision making.
· Participate in teaching, audit, research and quality improvement activities.

Main Aims and Objectives of the Post
The aims of the fellowship are to:
- Develop advanced expertise in the diagnosis and management of MS and neuroinflammatory disorders.
- Gain experience in prescribing and monitoring disease-modifying therapies and advanced immunotherapies.
- Develop skills in multidisciplinary working and complex clinical decision making.
- Gain experience in neuroimmunology investigations and interpretation.
- Participate in research, audit and quality improvement initiatives.
- Develop educational and leadership skills relevant to future consultant practice.
Duties of the Post
The post holder will:
- Attend specialist MS and neuroinflammatory disease clinics under consultant supervision.
- Independently assess patients and formulate management plans for complex neuroinflammatory conditions.
- Participate in disease-modifying therapy clinics and infusion services.
- Attend neuroimmunology and neuroradiology MDT meetings.
- Contribute to inpatient consultations involving inflammatory neurological disease.
- Participate in clinical governance, audit and quality improvement projects.
- Support teaching of junior doctors, allied health professionals and medical students.
- Participate in departmental research and clinical trial activity where appropriate.
- Maintain a portfolio aligned with fellowship educational objectives and CiPs.
- Participate in appraisal meetings and educational supervision throughout the fellowship.
