Job Title: Ward Receptionist – Supporting People with Learning Disabilities & Autism
Location: Brooklands Hospital
37.5 hours per week - Monday to Friday
Are you calm, organised, compassionate and passionate about supporting people with learning disabilities and/or autism?
Brooklands Hospital is home to several specialist secure wards supporting adults with learning disabilities and/or autism. We’re looking for Ward Receptionists (officially titled Ward Clerks) who are calm, friendly, and proactive – people who understand the importance of a warm welcome and can help keep our busy wards running smoothly.
This is more than an admin role – you’ll be a key part of the team supporting individuals with complex needs, helping to create a positive and safe environment for both patients and staff.
Main duties of the job
What you’ll do:
- Greet visitors and professionals in a calm, respectful way
- Handle ward admin and support daily operations
- Help create a safe, supportive environment for patients with LD&A
- Be a key team member in a busy, rewarding setting
· Scanning and uploading important documents and data accurately and promptly
· Helping to keep records accurate and up to date.

QUALIFICATIONS
Essential criteria
- Good General Education (eg. GCSE English and Maths A-C)
Desirable criteria
- QCF Customer Service Level 2
- QCF Business Administration Level 2
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS
Essential criteria
- Good communication / customer care skills both written and verbal demonstrating sympathy and compassion
- Standard keyboard / IT skills
- Understand confidentiality and apply the principles in every day working practice
- Ability to pay attention to detail where there are predictable interruptions to the work pattern
- Ability to deal with stressful situations and sensitive issues
EXPERIENCE
Essential criteria
- Experience of working with a range of Microsoft Office packages (eg. Word, Excel and Outlook)

Applicant requirements
The postholder will have access to vulnerable people in the course of their normal duties and as such this post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (Amendment) (England and Wales) Order 2020 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service to check for any previous criminal convictions.
