Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Checks

Many of the roles we advertise have a requirement for a DBS check to be carried out. If you are successful for a role and it requires a DBS check the Trust will carry out the initial check and subscription to the DBS Update Service, however successful candidates will be expected to cover the associated costs . Details of this will be sent to successful candidates in their offer letter.

Probationary Period

All new staff to the Trust will be subject to a standard 6 month probationary period, the details of which will duly follow in your contract of employment.

Agile and Flexible Working

All our staff will have a work base. However the Trust operates as an Agile Working Team therefore staff may be working from home on a regular basis as required by the service. However, occasionally travel around Warwickshire and into your base will be required so access to your own transport would be helpful.

The Trust also welcome staff to work flexibly and we would welcome the conversation at interview regarding flexible working.

Car Parking

Job overview

Hatton ward is a busy surgical admission ward with patients from Urology, General surgery and  ENT.

We are a friendly team and the Housekeeper is an important role. The successful candidate will be responsible for ordering and managing stock and Stationary and maintain a clean working  environment

There is a requirement to support with answering the ward telephone during ward rounds, use Integra for ordering, and maintain compliance: for example oxygen and suction checking, PAT test dates , commode leaning and maintaining a clean ward.

Hatton ward is audited for cleaning, nursing and estates Issue which the Housekeeper is involved in resolving the issues raised.

There is also some admin duties involving Lorenzo.

Main duties of the job

 To support nursing staff in the delivery and co-ordination of patient requirements.  The post holder will work part of the ward team ensuring a clean, safe and comfortable environment for the patient.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Key Result Areas:

MEETING NUTRITIONAL REQUIREMENTS

To assist patients to order food that meets their dietary requirements.

To ensure dietary supplements are well stocked and are in date/stock rotated.

To receive the meal trolley when it arrives on the ward.

To serve meals in a timely manner in conjunction with nursing staff.

To ensure patients have the assistance they require to eat and drink e.g. feeding, cutting up food, placing food within reach.

To ensure new starters/temporary staff allocated to the area are aware of the “Red Tray” scheme and how it operates.

In conjunction with nurses, monitor dietary intake as appropriate and maintain nutrition charts.

To promote a pleasant environment for eating, i.e. remove clutter from tables.

To take responsibility for the ward pantry, ensuring it is clean at all times i.e. discard out of date food, stock rotation.

To ensure temperature of ward fridge is monitored as per trust policy.

To ensure food in fridge is labeled and stored correctly.

To ensure adherence to the protected meal time policy.

To take responsibility for the drug and staff fridge, i.e. disregard out of date and discharged patients’ drugs and out of date food 

MAINTAINING THE ENVIRONMENT

To establish a pleasant and welcoming atmosphere to patients, visitors and staff.

To carry out monitoring of service delivery related to cleaning, food, linen and the environment at agreed frequencies.

To ensure all requirements for maintenance/repairs to equipment are reported in a timely manner via the intranet.

To monitor response times for maintenance and repairs and report any issues to the Ward Manager.

To ensure patients lockers and bed side tables are kept clean and tidy.

To maintain the cleanliness of all nursing equipment and trolleys. 

To clean and restock patients’ drinks trolley.

To liase with staff following the discharge of a patient regarding cleaning the bed area in preparation for the new patient.

To ensure that alcohol gel dispensers are cleaned and replenished.

To keep the sluice tidy and clean.

Work in conjunction with the cleaning team, particularly on “floor cleaning” day, to supervise the movement of patients and assist the team by advising which equipment can be moved/unplugged etc. and to ensure the activities are carried out safely and in a dignified manner.

GENERAL

To ensure personal privacy, dignity and confidentiality is maintained.

To ensure commodes are cleaned on a regular basis

To assist with bed making.

To file patients records in the absence of the Ward Aide.

To receive and welcome visitors.

To respond to telephone calls in a courteous manner.

To receive and pass on information to others, maintaining confidentiality.

To ensure the cost effective use of resources.

To respond to patients concerns through communication with nursing staff.

To respond to emergencies as appropriate.

To maintain effective working relationships.

To promote effective communication with patients, colleagues, other health care staff and visitors to the trust.

Maintain a professional image at all times.

To assist with the printing of labels, ordering of notes and admission of patients using the trust computer system.

TRAINING AND EDUCATION ROLE

Undertake appropriate training for specific tasks delegated by the Ward Manager, at all times working within Trust Policies.

The post holder will acknowledge their limitations in relation to any delegated task that they do not feel competent to perform..
