Job overview

To ensure the efficient operation of the stores  and materials management service, supporting clinical and non-clinical staff in delivering high-quality patient care. The Material management Supervisor  oversees the service travelling from site to site, ensuring it adheres to government legislation, CQC, PLACE, and NHS standards. This role supports the trust's clinical and non-clinical colleagues in their provision of care, with a specific focus on infection prevention and control.

Main duties of the job

  • Manage and oversee the safe and efficient operation of the stores service across all trust premises, ensuring adherence to Health & Safety standards and Infection Prevention and Control measures.
  • Supervise and execute scheduled tasks to support the stores, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements and maintaining rigorous Infection Prevention and Control protocols.
  • Ensure the consistent availability and proper storage of stock consumables, including housekeeping chemicals, with appropriate COSHH documentation.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and safety of both internal and external areas of the stores site, ensuring a professional and secure environment.
  • Oversee staffing levels, ensuring adequate coverage for the stores service, and address urgent requests promptly to guarantee efficient job completion.
  • Identify opportunities for improvement in stores operations, work closely with the Site Facilities Coordinator to implement enhancements, and ensure compliance with CQC and PLACE standards.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Operational Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the stores service across all trust premises, ensuring safety and efficiency.
  • Organize staffing over a 5-day period, ensuring all main services such as post service, medication collections and deliveries, and sample collections and deliveries are covered.
  • Supervise and, when necessary, perform scheduled tasks to support the stores, ensuring compliance with Health & Safety requirements.
  • Uphold all Infection Prevention and Control measures within responsible sites and across the Trust.
  • Ensure the availability and proper storage of all stock consumables, including housekeeping chemicals, with appropriate COSHH information.
  • Undertake additional tasks to maintain compliance with service specifications.
  • Ensure internal and external areas of the stores site are presentable and safe.
  • Follow up on urgent stores requests to ensure efficient job completion.
  • Identify areas for improvement and liaise with the Site Facilities Coordinator to implement changes.
  • Maintain close liaison with Site Facilities Coordinators to ensure a coordinated approach to stores services.
  • Ensure tasks are performed competently to meet CQC and PLACE requirements.
  • Ensure adherence to health and safety regulations, including food safety, environmental health, and COSHH.

Person specification

Education/ Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Good level of education up to A level or equivalent level of experience within the NHS
  • Business Administration Level 2
  • Institute of Leadership and Management qualification level 3
  • NVQ Level 3 in Facilities Management, ECDL or Equivalent

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Aptitude for self-motivation and showing initiative
  • An ability to follow procedures & manuals
  • An understanding of how rosters are compiled and are operated
  • Understanding how to deliver stores and transport services with a ‘live’ hospital environment being mindful of patient , staff and visitor safety.
  • An understanding of operational techniques in delivering Stores and Transport services.
  • Experience of working in a facilities related service in the NHS
