We are delighted to announce we have secured funding to develop our stroke pathway, ensuring high-quality care and rehabilitation from the acute setting through to the community. As part of this exciting development, we have opportunities for motivated, driven and dynamic Occupational Therapists to join our Stroke rehabilitation team in a Band 6 position.

You will work as part of a supportive, forward-thinking multidisciplinary team, delivering high quality rehabilitation across the stroke pathway. Posts are available in both inpatient settings at Bradford Royal Infirmary (covering acute stroke and stroke/neurology rehabilitation wards) and in the community as part of our Community Stroke Therapy Team (including outpatient clinics, gyms, and patients’ homes). Both static and rotational specialist Stroke and Neuro positions are available.

Main duties of the job

Static specialist Stroke and Neurology posts are available within the  Acute Stroke and Neurology inpatient team at Bradford Royal Infirmary (covering acute stroke and stroke/neurology rehabilitation wards) and the Community Stroke Therapy Team, based at St Luke's Hospital, (includes outpatient clinics, gyms, and patients’ homes).

Specialist rotational Stroke and Neurology posts available include rotation between the previously outlined areas, together with a rotation within the Neurological Rehabilitation Team. Candidates preference for static or specialist rotational positions will be considered as part of the interview process.

There may be a requirement for the post holder to work flexibly in other areas as required, including different hospital sites and community settings including domiciliary visits. The post may involve working across 7 days, including weekends and bank holidays.

Person specification

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Substantial post-graduate experience, including recent experience in an NHS setting.
  • Previous experience of assessment, treatment planning for patients needing rehabilitation
  • Previous clinical experience in neurology and / or stroke rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
  • Experience working with and assessing adults with complex needs in community and in patient setting

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Good communication skills, both written and verbal, with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team
  • Competent in core areas of Occupational Therapy practice
  • Competent IT skills
  • Evidence of current, relevant CPD and external learning
Desirable criteria
  • Experience of training or teaching other staff.

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Specialist knowledge of current evidence based best practice in the field of Stroke and Neurological rehabilitation.
  • Understanding and knowledge of relevant national guideline, standards and NHS documents such as the NHS Long-term Plan.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Degree in Occupational Therapy Studies
  • HCPC Registered
  • Clinical Educators course
  • Post registration qualification in relevant subject/attendance on relevant postgraduate courses
Desirable criteria
  • RCOT
  • Leadership or management development qualification / courses
