Job overview
This is a less than full time post with an 7PA allocation.
An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bradford Teaching Hospitals as a Stroke / Neuro Rehabilitation Consultant as we shape our complex rehabilitation services to fit the needs of Bradford patients, providing complex care closer to home.
In late 2023 Bradford Teaching Hospitals opened a dedicated stroke and neurological rehabilitation unit with a skilled therapy and nursing team. This ward complements the acute service focusing on rehabilitation of patients, supporting discharges and working with a multidisciplinary team of physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and psychologists along with stroke-trained nurses to support the management of medium and long term impacts of stroke. To continue the development of the rehabilitation service and to deliver the recommendations in the National Stroke Plan, there is a recognised need for senior clinical and medical input to rehabilitation pathways.
The successful applicant will join a dynamic and committed multi-disciplinary clinical team consisting of a Lead Rehabilitation Stroke Consultant, Stroke Consultants, Senior Clinical Fellow and a team of resident doctors and registered nurses.

Main duties of the job
This post holder will support developments in line with the National Stroke Plan and will lead and manage the Stroke Rehabilitation pathway at Bradford Teaching Hospitals,. They will input into collaborative working with the rehabilitation service at Airedale , and provide spasticity management and complex rehabilitation advice for post-acute stroke patients.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
To provide consultant supervision and leadership to the Stroke / Neurology Rehabilitation Ward at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
· To work cooperatively with the team of staff delivering hyperacute treatments, to ensure effective joint working and highest quality care for patients throughout their stroke journey
· To support the IT infrastructure which underpins the stroke service and facilitate improved clinical governance and SSNAP data collection
· To utilise all the resources available in delivering an effective and efficient service including the Community Stroke Team, therapy services and colleagues from within the West Yorkshire Stroke Network (ISDN).
· To work collaboratively with the stroke multi-disciplinary team to improve patient flow and facilitate decision making for our stroke inpatients.
· To contribute to the education and training of staff from a variety of disciplines, particularly in the management of stroke rehabilitation
· To help provide a consultant-led comprehensive acute and post-acute stroke service together with consultant colleagues, incorporating rehabilitation principles at the earliest possible opportunity.
· To provide outpatient clinics to enable discharged patients to be followed up and supported through their rehabilitation programme.
Person specification
Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Completed a recognised training programme in Stroke Medicine and/or Rehabilitation Medicine
- MBChB or equivalent
- Member of the Royal College of Physicians or Royal College of Physicians (UK) or equivalent
- CCT or within 6 months of AAC date
- On Specialist Register with GMC and continue to hold a licence to practice
Experience
Essential criteria
- Evidence of completing an approved period of training in Stroke Rehabilitation
Desirable criteria
- Trained Educational Supervisor
Skills / Knowledge
Essential criteria
- Commitment to working cooperatively and collaboratively with other health professionals and organisations
- Ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
- Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
- Training in delivery of educational programmes
