An opportunity has arisen for an experienced and highly motivated registered nurse with significant post registration experience in Upper GI/ HPB cancer or cancer services to lead the Upper GI and HPB clinical nurse specialist service at Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
The trust is one of 2 specialist tertiary centres for Oesophago-Gastric cancer surgery in West Yorkshire and the post holder will participate in and oversee the provision of nursing services within UGI and HPB cancer services.
The post holder will have responsibility for the management of the Upper GI/ HPB cancer Nurse Specialist team working in conjunction with professionals from Upper GI surgery, Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Oncology.
As a core member of the multi-disciplinary team, you will provide, whilst managing a defined caseload, advanced nursing expertise/interventions to our patients with Upper GI and HPB cancers, enhancing the quality of life for patients/carers with a suspicion or diagnosis of Upper GI and HPB cancers, including complex physical, and emotional needs.
Main duties of the job
The Upper GI Lead Clinical Nurse Specialist (Lead CNS) holds a leadership role within the Trust integral to the provision of a high-quality service for patients referred to the UGI/ HPB cancer service. The Lead UGI CNS will be a Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) within the Surgery & Digestive Diseases Clinical services unit, with additional responsibility for line management and professional leadership of the Upper GI/ HPB Clinical Nurse Specialists.
The post holder will participate in and oversee the provision of nursing services within UGI and HPB cancer services with support from the Clinical Lead and Lead Cancer Nurse.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
· Lead and manage the UGI / HPB CNS team including direct staff management.
· Provide advice and consultancy, as Lead CNS for the Western West Yorkshire Oesophago-Gastric MDT, in line with local, regional and national guidelines and standards.
· Lead in the development of protocols and policies and provide support for the Upper GI cancer nursing team to work with other members of the multi-disciplinary teams across the West of West Yorkshire.
· Manage own caseload of patients delivering highly specialised clinical care but also within the Upper GI MDT to maintain appropriate services delivery.
T The post will involve travelling between sites (Bradford Royal Infirmary, St Lukes Hospital and Eccleshill Hospital) and externally to other organisations within West Yorkshire & Harrogate Cancer Alliance to attend meetings, therefore an ability to travel is essential.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registered Nurse with valid NMC registration
- Post registration qualification / training in area of clinical speciality
- Relevant post registration experience, including experience of working in UGI/ HPB cancer, palliative care, oncology or UGI Surgery
- Degree or equivalent level of education or experience
- Master`s degree or working towards or evidence of study at this leve
- Teaching and assessing qualification eg. ENB (998) or equivalent
- Level 2 psychology
- Advanced Communication Skills training

- IRMER nurse referrer training
- Counselling qualification
