Job overview

The post holder will work for the Transport & Fleet Services department as a driver either on a collection / delivery of stores/specimen samples, a collection of clinical waste from patient home addresses within Wiltshire and neighboring counties / a driver courier of miscellaneous goods or clean and dirty Linen.

At the time of advertising, this role does not meet the minimum requirements set by UK Visas and Immigration to sponsor candidates to work in the UK. For this reason, we are unable to sponsor anyone for a skilled worker visa for this role.

Main duties of the job

1.     As a Driver your duties will include, loading of goods prior to dispatch on timed routes: this will include Pharmacy controlled drugs or stores, medical records, internal mail, medical equipment, Stores and clean or dirty linen. 

2.     A delivery and collection service of internal mail, documents, medical stores and any ad-hoc stores / equipment to locations on a pre-determined multiple start/finish timed routes as detailed by the Transport Department, route start times vary from 0700 to 1100, with all shifts covering 7.5 hours. 

3.     A collection of pathological samples from doctors surgeries, health centres or Hospitals and a delivery service to pathology laboratories. 

4.     Collection of clinical waste from patient’s residential addresses as part of a specialist dedicated route. 

5.     Ensure that strict timed route schedules are adhered to and reporting to the Transport Department in case of deviation and/or delays. Overtime will not be paid unless authorised in these cases. 

6.     To ensure the correct disposal of clinical waste at recognised disposal sites adhering to Government and NHS waste streams regulations.

7.     Assist and undertake valets of the Trust’s pool vehicle fleet and other official vehicles, to ensure an acceptable standard of cleanliness, inside and out.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Holiday / Sickness cover for all Transport Team Drivers across multiple bases/sites, car parking attendants and Linen Department staff as required. 

Out of hour’s emergency driving in adverse weather conditions as required (e.g. adverse weather, resilience operations snow, flooding). 

To complete the staff induction, all mandatory training and to ensure all Trust policies and processes are adhered to.

To comply with ALL road laws and restrictions for driving/parking including eye tests as required by law or Trust management.

To inform the Trust of any health issues that are DVLA reportable or could affect your ability to drive safely. 

While on duty wear the uniform and ID badge as supplied, conforming to the standards of the Trust’s Uniform Policy, and wear supplied PPE when appropriate always ensuring a tidy appearance.

Utilizing all safety equipment, following all safe systems of work and best practices including the wearing of seatbelts at all times.

Submitting to an annual driver assessment or as and when required by management.
