As an Ambulatory Care Volunteer, you will be a valued member of our small team, helping to create a warm, supportive, and patient centered environment. By taking on essential non-clinical tasks, such as welcoming patients, offering refreshments, providing friendly companionship, and running blood samples to the lab, you will directly support our nursing staff. Your presence will ease patient anxiety, ensure smooth unit operations, and transform long treatment days into a more reassuring experience for patients and their loved ones. 

About the department: The NCCC Ambulatory Care Unit specialises in providing high-quality, patient centered care for patients having 
complex high-risk Haematology and Oncology Systemic Anti-Cancer Therapies. 

Our key areas of expertise include: 
• Safely supporting and monitoring patients having SACT at home via use of an ambulatory device. 
• Delivery of ambulatory stem cell conditioning regimes for a range of Haematological conditions. 
• Administration of Autogulous Stem Cell transplants for Myeloma patients. 
• Caring for high-risk patients who require close monitoring and specialist clinical support. 
• Delivering supportive therapies tailored to patients with specific and complex needs. 

This is a dynamic unit providing unique innovative cancer care delivery.

• Welcome patients and their loved ones warmly as they arrive on the unit. 
• Offer and serve refreshments to improve comfort during long treatment days. 
• Provide friendly companionship and a listening ear to help ease patient anxiety. 
• Transport blood samples from the department to the NCCC analyser. 
• Deliver samples to the main lab on weekends when the NCCC analyser is unavailable. 
• Wait for result printouts at the lab or analyser, return results promptly to the nursing team to keep the clinic running smoothly.

Important note on completion of the application form

REFERENCES: Candidates are required to provide the address, telephone number and work email address of TWO referees, who should be either a current or former employer, senior work colleague, teacher, tutor or person of good standing in the community, and certify that they have known you for a minimum of 3 years prior to the date of application.  PLEASE NOTE: That we cannot accept references from Friends or Family members.

DBS: The majority of our Volunteer roles require a Disclosure and Barring Scheme (DBS) Check.  The volunteer services team will apply for this on your behalf, as part of your pre-engagement checks.  If you already hold an enhanced DBS and it is registered on the DBS Update Service, then you will need to provide evidence and present your original DBS certificate to the Volunteer Services Team during your ID check appointment.
