HART Paramedic – North West Ambulance Service. 

North West Ambulance Service is recruiting HCPC Registered Paramedics to join our Hazardous Area Response Team (HART), delivering specialist paramedic level care in high-risk and challenging environments. This role requires individuals who are resilient, adaptable, and able to perform under pressure while working in complex incidents involving hazardous materials, confined spaces, height, or water. You will work as part of a highly skilled, close-knit team alongside partner agencies, demonstrating excellent teamwork, communication, and decision-making skills. You will respond to major and critical incidents regionally and, where required, nationally. Candidates must be physically fit, professionally driven, and committed to maintaining high clinical and operational standards. This is a unique opportunity to develop your current skills and operate at the forefront of pre-hospital emergency care.

Working for our organisation

North West Ambulance Service NHS Trust provides 24 hour, 365 days a year accident and emergency services to those in need of emergency medical treatment and transport.

Our highly skilled staff provide life-saving care to patients in the community and take people to hospital or a place of care if needed.
We also provide non-emergency patient transport services for those patients who require non-emergency transport to and from hospital and who are unable to travel unaided because of their medical condition or clinical need.

Alongside the other emergency services, we also work to ensure the safety of the public and treatment of patients in the event of a major incident.

We also deliver the NHS 111 service in the North West. NHS 111 replaced NHS Direct in 2013. This service was introduced to make it easier for people to access local NHS healthcare services in England. It provides non-emergency medical help fast, and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Education & Experience

Essential criteria
  • HCPC Registered Paramedic
  • Higher Education Diploma in Paramedic Practice or Equivalent Qualification
  • Must be post NQP sign off
  • Significant or demonstrable experience
  • Evidence of Continued Professional Development
  • Evidence of working in Multi agency environment

Knowledge, Skills & Personal Attributes

Essential criteria
  • Proven clinical skills and a commitment to delivering high standards of patient care
  • Ability to make sound clinical decisions often at short notice in difficult circumstances with limited clinical support
  • Ability to maintain high standards of clinical care and health and safety, even in stressful and challenging situations
  • Understanding of the Trust’s risk management system and ability to undertake Dynamic Operational Risk Assessments and manage risk in accordance with these procedures
  • Understanding of and demonstrable commitment to Equal Opportunities and Diversity, both as a colleague and as a provider of a service to the public
  • Effective written, verbal, listening and communication skills in high stress environments

Physical Requirements

Essential criteria
  • Ability to deliver high standards of clinical care at height and other areas of difficult access.
  • Ability to deliver high standards of clinical care in enclosed, confined spaces
  • Capable of swimming 100m in still water and short distances in swift flowing water
  • Ability to don specialist PPE for protracted periods of time
  • Able to pass a physical competence assessment prior to selection and maintain physical competence in line with national standards
