Job overview

Join our dynamic Endoscopy team where you will play a vital role in delivering safe, effective, and compassionate care to patients undergoing a wide range of diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.

You will be responsible for supporting patients throughout their endoscopy journey, including the safe recovery of patients following general anaesthetic or conscious sedation.

Working closely with the endoscopist and multidisciplinary team, you will assist during procedures such as gastroscopy, colonoscopy, EMR/ESD, bronchoscopy, and EBUS.

You will use your clinical expertise to monitor, assess, and evaluate patients before, during, and after procedures, ensuring the highest standards of care and patient safety at all times.

As part of a supportive and collaborative environment, you will also play an important role in mentoring junior staff, students, and new team members—sharing your knowledge and helping to foster a positive learning culture.

This role offers excellent opportunities for professional development within a JAG-accredited Endoscopy Unit.

You will be encouraged to participate in audits, training, and continuous improvement initiatives, while actively contributing to the ongoing development of your own practice and that of your colleagues.

Above all, you will embody our Trust values—being Kind, Expert, Collaborative, and Aspirational—in everything you do, ensuring outstanding care for our patients and strong teamwork across the service.

Main duties of the job

•    Undertake comprehensive pre-, intra-, and post-procedure assessments, including planning, implementation, and evaluation of individualised care.

•    Support the Endoscopy Unit Manager/Sister in the day-to-day running of the unit by maintaining safe standards of care and escalating concerns appropriately.

•    Take responsibility for the organisation and coordination of care for a designated group of patients during each shift.

•    Assess the needs of patients, relatives, and carers, and provide appropriate information and support as required.

•    Assist in the teaching and development of nursing assistants and pre-registration students, supporting them to achieve their learning outcomes.

•    Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current developments in nursing practice and ensure care is delivered in line with evidence-based standards.

•    Develop new skills and specialist knowledge relevant to the endoscopy speciality, as directed by the Endoscopy Unit Manager.
