ICU Receptionist - Band 2
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual to join our Reception team on the Intensive Care Unit.
The post will involve working on a busy reception desk. Responsibilities will include admitting and discharging patients, as well as helping relatives and supporting clinical staff in the day to day running of the Unit. A major part of this role will be welcoming visitors to the department.
We are looking for an individual with excellent communication skills, both face to face and on the telephone. Computer skills and knowledge of using excel spreadsheets are also required. The ability to deal with varied administrative duties and changing priorities is essential.
This post is full time. This post requires flexibility to ensure the Reception area is covered between the hours of 08:00 to 20:00 Monday - Friday and on Saturdays / Sundays to accommodate the needs of the service, and must also be able to provide cover for colleagues.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
- Receive visitors to the unit in a polite and friendly manner.
- Ensure that relevant Unit, Trust and NHS information is readily available for relatives.
- Perform routine clerical duties involved in the admission, transfer and discharge of patients. To include filing, tracing and maintaining all notes and x-rays, investigation reports, blood transfusion cards, or other records appertaining to the patients on the unit.
- Answer the telephone in a friendly courteous manner with due regard for patient confidentiality. All necessary information to be promptly forwarded to the relevant personnel.
- Ensure that all patients are admitted, transferred and discharged in a timely manner.
- Receive sort, distribute and redirect mail to patients and staff.
- Complete non-stock requisitions as necessary.
- Use photocopier and fax machines.
- Use computer to update demographic patient information, including admissions, transfers and discharge information as directed by the nursing staff.
- Be aware of financial restraints on ordering of supplies and services.
- Collections and delivers to other wards and departments as instructed.
- Ensure that all notes are sent to coding immediately, following discharge
- Process donations to the Unit in accordance with Trust policies.
- Undertake correspondence as directed by the Senior Nursing Team.
- Undertake appropriate clerical and administrative training to maintain required skills and competencies.
- Keep up to date with changes with Trust policies and documentation.

- Educated to O level/CSE/GCSE standard for Grade C and above in Maths and English
Work Experience
