Job overview

Why choose Dorset County Hospital (DCH).  DCH is currently undergoing a complete emergency floor redesign and rebuild. As part of this, we have exciting opportunities for an enthusiastic geriatrician to contribute to a bespoke pathway for frail older people admitted to hospital. We are looking to recruit a geriatrician with a passion for excellent care to join our diverse team of consultants, specialist doctors, nurse consultants and speciality doctors. Our team is flexible, supportive and inclusive. New consultants would be supported with a mentor and we are all highly approachable. We would welcome applications from LTFT candidates or from doctors with the appropriate skills who may not be on the specialist register.

INTERVIEWS - 22/4/24

Main duties of the job

DCH is a small hospital where staff genuinely work as a team and there are many opportunities for career development which would not be present in larger centres.

The successful applicant will join a successful and enthusiastic team and will participate in the delivery and development of services for older people in a friendly district general hospital. The postholder will have a timetable tailored to individual skills and subspeciality expertise but likely to include work in front door frailty and providing input to elderly trauma and general surgical patients. We provide daily geriatrician led ward rounds on the medical admissions unit, rapid access outpatient care in Frailty SDEC clinics, a 46 bed inpatient ward, an acute stroke unit and associated rehabilitation and outpatient stroke services, orthogeriatric and general surgical liaison service, Parkinson's disease service. We have close links with colleagues working in our local community hospitals with some colleagues working across the two areas providing inpatient care to community hospital patients as well as working at DCH.  Our services are working with our nursing and allied health professional colleagues with the eventual aim of becoming Dorset County Hospital's Centre of Excellence for the Care of Older People.

Working for our organisation

Why move to West Dorset? We live in an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, there are excellent state and private schools, reasonable house prices and minimal traffic congestion. There are easy links to bigger centres for when urban culture is necessary. Quality of life in West Dorset is high. A generous relocation package would be provided.

At DCHFT, we pride ourselves on the care we provide for our patients, and on the culture, we are creating for our staff. We work hard to create a fair, inclusive environment for our staff.  Our Mission is to provide outstanding care for people in ways which matter to them, and our vision is that Dorset County Hospital, working with our health and social care partners, will be at the heart of improving the well-being of our communities.

We are a Trust that celebrates diversity, and we are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. We welcome applications from people in all under-represented groups.
