Job overview

Our friendly Cellular Pathology Clerical Hub team are looking for an enthusiastic and self-motivated individual to join our busy team of secretaries, MDTs and administrators, to assist with the day to day running of the Histology office.

Main duties of the job

The post-holder will support an efficient, confidential and professional secretarial and MDT service to the specialty teams. This will include administration and secretarial support to enable provision of patient care and speciality services. Good communication with patients, relatives, general practitioners and other hospital staff is essential to ensure a proficient, high quality service for patients and clinicians. The post-holder will be part of the team preparing materials for sending away and providing clerical support for MDT meetings and clinical trials.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy

Knowledge of medical terminology desirable but full training will be given

Computer literate: Have a good working knowledge of all aspects of Microsoft Office

Typing correspondence to GPs, medical staff and any other required addressee or other patient contacts as directed

Ability to use own judgement and initiative and identify and advise on training needs.

Organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workload and work to deadlines

Work flexibly within a team, quickly and accurately.  

Ability to work well under pressure and have good problem solving skills

Essential criteria
  • Educated to GCSE grade C or above (or equivalent) in literacy and numeracy
Desirable criteria
  • RSA Level three/Speed typing qualification or demonstrable experience (min 60 wpm) D
  • NVQ in Administration level 3 Computer literate in Microsoft Office packages
