Job overview

This post is a band 6 post working towards a postgraduate diploma in either Cardiac devices or Electrocardiography. Darent Valley Hospital

The successful candidate should have obtained their B.Sc. Honours in Clinical Cardiology.

Can independently and confidently perform a range of Non-invasive Cardiac diagnostic procedures.

The post holder will be required to work towards being independent in our Catheter Lab performing device implants, Angiography, Primary PCI, and in the Device follow-up clinics

The post holder will be required to study for and complete a recognized Heart Rhythm Device qualification such as IBHRE, EHRA or BHRS or

Working towards obtaining a BSE accreditation in Electrocardiography.

The successful candidate will also be required to work in all areas of non-invasive diagnostic cardiology investigations to include 12 lead ECG’s, holter monitoring, 24hr Blood pressure monitoring, 7 day holter, lead in exercise testing and tilt testing.

Rotation around a broad range of technical areas will be necessary to maintain competencies for state registration.

Main duties of the job

  • 1.  works in dependently in the pacing lab for dual chamber pacemaker implant including hardware selection.
  • 3"   Perform all device follow-up, including trouble shooting, program optimisation 
  • 6.       To record all device implants and follow-ups on the TomCat data system Training will be given
  • 7
  • 8.       Perform and record device home monitoring clinics ensuring results are recorded in accordance with department protocols.
  • 9.       Ensure basic stock control for a specific area.
  • 10.   Provide cardiac physiologist support for left and right heart angiography and PCI.
  • 11.   Provide physiologist support for IABP in the cardiac cath lab.
  • 12.   To be able to obtain basic echo images and produce a formal report if Echocardiography is your chosen route to work towards becoming accredited
  • 13.   To supervise exercise tolerance testing upon completion of the local Exercise Testing Competency Framework.
  • 14.   To participate in the reporting of direct access ECG’s.
  • 15.   To competently perform resting and ambulatory ECG and BP recordings including event recorders, analysis and reporting of ambulatory (24/48 and 7 day) ECG
  • 16.   To perform head-up tilt table testing (HUTT)
  • 17.   To review and prioritise inpatient requests for cardiac investigations including but not limited to ambulatory ECG recording, exercise tolerance tests
  • 18.   To keep abreast of new developments in products and techniques within international and diagnostic cardiology.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To maintain discipline and standards of technical competency in the provision of investigative services within the department whilst maintaining a standard defined by Departmental protocols.

To eventually become unsupervised in advanced level techniques in implantation and follow-up of ICDs and biventricular devices.

To work unsupervised in the cardiac cath lab for international procedures

Or working to perform Echocardiograms unsupervised
