Job overview
The focus of this Specialty Trainee level fellowship post is to work with the Education Department to evaluate, develop and deliver education, within the fellowship project area. This would involve differing educational methods aligned to the need, and should involve new innovations in education. The aim for this role, will not only be to develop an improved education programme but to also promote a greater understanding around the project area.
The role has a key focus on developing the post holder’s own leadership and education capability. This will be achieved through the work-based project(s) and include a Post Graduate Certificate in Medical Education.
The role will allow the opportunity to develop teaching skills, extend knowledge of educational theory and undertake educational research. It will suit an individual who has an interest in medical education and educational research alongside their clinical commitments. The role includes a clinical component to enable the post holder to maintain and develop their clinical skills.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be part of our medical education team and will carry out various projects / roles to support the education, training and improved experience of our junior doctors, specifically within a designated project area within the curriculum.
The role may include:
· delivering education and training for trainees and / or multi-professional groups
· engagement with key stakeholders to develop the teaching and support education.
· providing mentorship and assisting trainees with their quality improvement projects
The role also provides the opportunity to gain insight into medical education processes and infrastructure at Trust and KSS Deanery level.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
Main Responsibilities
- Lead and contribute to a designated project. Develop relevant teaching programmes with questionnaires to attendants to monitor impact. Develop leadership skills in working within and outside the department, engaging stakeholders and reporting to the people and organisational development group for assurance.
- Build awareness of and actively participate in wider system related to the project and development goals

Education and development responsibilities
4.1 Working in collaboration across the educational pathway to support the wide variety of learners within medical education.
4.2 Supporting the development of the annual work plan in relation to medical education.
4.3 Designing and delivering educational programmes across clinical education, and supporting medical education and learning and development in this, ensuring that organisational requirements are met.
4.4 Planning, designing and delivering education, both in and across the organisation, at all levels, using both formal training delivery and work place based approaches.
4.5 Maintaining an up to date knowledge of adult learning methodologies, and active engagement with education research across the health education pathway.
4.6 Maintaining current active professional registration.
4.7 Acting always in accordance with professional Code of Conduct and guiding documents.
4.8 Adhering to Trust Policy and Procedure.
4.9 Maintaining own educational development and encourage new practice in others, whilst embracing new technology e.g. e-learning.
4.10 Supporting nurse and allied health professional training where appropriate.
4.11 Facilitating multi-disciplinary learning opportunities.
4.12 Supporting the Simulation Lead and Human Factors & Simulation Training Officer with the training for the Trust, ensuring that learning interventions enable the Trust to deliver high quality safe care to its patients and meets its regulatory requirements.
4.13 Participating in the medical education and simulation working group meetings and undertaking projects tasked from this group.
4.14 Participating in the development and teaching of new and existing teaching courses, for postgraduate and undergraduate trainees, including simulation programmes.
4.15 Undertaking evaluation of courses and teaching delivered to ensure that trainees’ needs are continually met.
4.16 Undertaking research in medical education and aim to present research and novel ideas at local, national and international meetings.
4.17 Assisting in the completion of work-based assessments for trainees.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Appropriate professional postgraduate qualification e.g. MRCP, MRCS etc.
- Full GMC Registration and License to Practice at the time of appointment
- MBBS or equivalent medical qualification
Desirable criteria
- Intercalated BSc or equivalent Higher degrees including MSc, PhD or MD
- Publications in recognised medical or academic journals
- Teaching Qualification
Skills
Essential criteria
- Excellent written and verbal communication
- Project Management skills – experience of participating in or leading projects
- Good organisational and time management skills
Desirable criteria
- Leadership or management roles.
Experience

- Evidence of good career progression as demonstrated by employment history – at least 12 months working in the NHS
- Experience in delivery of teaching and education.
- Evidence of active participation in audit
- Evidence of interest and experience in delivering teaching to medical students and trainees
