Job overview
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a housekeep to join the friendly and supportive team on Rowan ward.
Rowan Ward is an acute 30 bedded fast flowing, surgical ward, it is made up of 4 bays and 5 side rooms. Patients are admitted via both elective and emergency pathways for a range of surgical diagnoses and procedures relating to colorectal and general surgical needs.

This position will not be supported for visa sponsorship. All applicants are expected to have valid right to work document to work in the UK when applying for this position.

Main duties of the job
To greet and receive patients, carers and other visitors to the ward/department in a courteous and helpful manner, whilst being mindful that there maybe barriers to understanding.
Be an effective member of the multi-disciplinary team assisting the Ward/Department to maintain a safe, clean and comfortable environment for the patients, their families and visitors and ensuring the privacy and dignity of patients at all times
Provide and receive routine messages accurately and in ways that are understood by the recipient, referring issues to the appropriate person where necessary. This could be face to face, written, verbal or by using the IT system.
Promote the prevention of cross infection to and from all patients, visitors’ staff and the environment by ensuring infection, prevention and control guidance is adhered to
Ensure that ward cleaning schedules are maintained and reviewed to meet agreed levels and that any shortfalls are dealt with quickly

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
General responsibilities:
Help prepare patients and environment for meals service. i.e. all patients have hand wipes etc
Ensure that the gender signage is appropriate (e.g. on toilet doors) and patients are aware of the location of gender appropriate facilities.
Report any Safeguarding concerns (either Adult or Children) to the nurse in charge.
Contribute to maintaining a high standard of cleanliness on the ward by working, initially, under supervision of ward manager
Contribute to effective stock control and maintenance and highlight any deficiencies to ward manager/ matron when appropriate.
Ensure correct waste segregation is adhered to, reporting incidents of non-compliance.
Ensure all sharps containers are correctly labelled and assembled as per policy.
Maintain a clear and clutter free ward environment, if necessary discuss storage issues with ward sister and Matron
Report faulty equipment to EBME and get it repaired
Report any concerns regarding the patient’s condition to the qualified nurse.
Report to the Nurse in Charge any issues that may prevent cleaning or compromise the safety of the environment.
Actively contribute to the provision of nutrition of the patients on the Ward/Department.
Ensure staff on the ward follow Trust dress code (i.e. hand hygiene, bare below the elbow)
Ensure green labels are completed daily for all clinical equipment
Attend Link nurse meetings for infection prevention and control

Essential criteria
- Good general education
- Good Literacy and numeracy skills.
Desirable criteria
- NVQ Level 2 in care or working towards
Knowledge and Skills

- Basic knowledge of Infection, Prevention and Control.

- Able to manage own time and working day in discussion with matron/ward sister.
