We are recruiting for a Phlebotomist who share our ambition and vision to deliver the Best of Care by the Best People and has the drive to take us forward, by ensuring that the Trust continues to be the first choice for patients and our staff.

Main duties of the job

The successful post holder will be expected to obtain blood samples from inpatients and outpatient

As a Phlebotomist you will ensure that all samples are obtained following SOP guidelines, policies and procedures                                            

The Phlebotomist will work in partnership with internal and external parties

A willingness to travel to Sheppey Community Hospital would be advantageous (expenses would be provided).

Full and Part Time opportunities available Monday to Sunday, but must be willing to commence work between 0700 - 0800 daily and occasional weekend working will be required.

In addition, you will need to work within time restricted settings obtaining samples within a safe clinical environment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

Responsible to perform venepuncture on patients in the inpatient and outpatient setting, preparing patients for venepuncture, ensuring they are given the opportunity to discuss their concerns and individual needs

Observe and report any side effects or untoward incidents which may result of the venepuncture procedure relating to the patient or the Phlebotomist

Adhere to all trust policies in relation to taking bloods samples from patients ensuring you maintain a high standard of service and patient care at all times

Treat all with dignity and respect whilst promoting a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors, and staff

You must be aware of all hospital policies and procedures and collaborate with other health care professional to ensure that these are observed

Recognize own limitations and seek assistance and advise when required

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare/health sciences or equivalent experience
  • GCSE Maths and English

Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Knowledge of a healthcare setting and background

Experience

Essential criteria
  • At least one years experience of taking blood samples in a clinical setting

Skills

Essential criteria
  • Basic IT skills
  • Able to provide and receive information, and relay test results to clinicians and other staff
  • Able to prepare specimens for diagnostic testing
