Job overview

To assist the team to have a well-stocked, tidy and welcoming environment for patients. Carry out assigned tasks involving direct care of patients in support of and supervised by a registered nurse in accordance with local policy and trust guidelines. Relieve trained nurses of non-clinical duties.

To rotate through all clinical areas to meet service needs.

 Under the supervision of the registered Nurse provide care to the highest attainable standard as an effective member of the clinical team, in accordance with agreed practice.

 

Main duties of the job

                     Assist in the assessment, planning and delivery of care, report any findings to the appropriate Health Care Professional

                     Assist the team with cannulation and venepuncture.

                    Removal of urinary catheters

                  Under direct supervision of nursing/ medical staff assist with minor treatments/ investigations.

                     Carry out, record and document patient testing as requested and in accordance with unit policy, to include Urinalysis, Pregnosticon , Random blood glucose and INR.

                     Under the direction of the Health care professional participate in the assessment, admission, discharge and hand over of patients.

                     Check and prepare all transfer trolleys – i.e. Oxygen, suction, resus equipment, linen and replace, as required. Check and change Oxygen/C02 cylinders on patient trolleys.

                    To transfer patients to and from all clinical areas, report any problems or issues regarding the patient to the relevant nurse..

                     Assist in the safe moving and positioning of patients.

                     Preparation of clinical area prior to procedure, by ensuring correct function of equipment, reporting any discrepancies and that there are adequate supplies of supplementary items.

An exciting Band 3 Support Worker opportunity has arisen offering the chance to be part of the  Elective Centre

Primarily based on the Burnley site you will be required to work flexibly to cover the needs of the service.

The state of the art Centre will cover elective surgical admissions to include an infusion suite, Day surgery unit with an inpatient facility, Procedure Room and Treatment room

The Elective centre is a very busy environment and can be both physically and mentally demanding.

You will need to be flexible in your approach and possess good communication skills.

An induction programme, mentorship and in house training will be given. You will gain access to a company pension and your uniform will be provided.

 The unit will open at 07:30 on a Monday and remain open until 14:00 Saturday afternoon and requires staffing cover to facilitate this.

           Communicate with patients and colleagues by telephone, face to face, in writing or electronically in order to contribute to the efficient running of the department.

            Co-operate with members of the multi-disciplinary team and report patient information to the relevant member of staff.

            Maintain a confidential and professional approach when dealing with patients, their relatives and other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

            Comply with complaints policies and procedures

 

           Participate in the training of Band 2, Cadet and Student Nurses

            Attend mandatory training and reviews as local policy.

            Participate in performance review process and achieve objectives.

                 Contribute to the development of the service.

                  Participate in clinical audit, trials and research within the department 

                 Achieve agreed learning objectives

            To comply with safety policies, procedures and guidelines for self and others.

         To refrain from the wilful misuse or interference with equipment provided in the interest of Health and Safety.

            To report as soon as is practically possible any hazards or defects.

         To report as soon as is practically possible accidents or untoward incidents and to ensure appropriate incident reporting documentation is completed.
