Consultant Community Paediatrician (and Autism Lead)

Based at Edgware Community hospital – with occasional clinics at other sites in Barnet.

Main duties of the job

We invite applications for a Consultant Community Paediatrician and Autism Lead. The post holder will be part of the Barnet Community Consultant team at Edgware Community Hospital, with no resident on call.

The post is 10 PA's and will include a mixture of clinical work.  We are anticipating a significant investment into our Autism Diagnostic Pathway and the post holder will have a key role in shaping that together with the pathway lead.  The post will also supervise trainee doctors in carrying out the supervision of Safeguarding medical examinations (on a rota basis) and general clinics.  Clinics will be: child development clinics and Autism Diagnostic Clinics (ADOS)

Education & professional Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • MRCPCH or equivalent
  • CCT in Paediatrics.
Desirable criteria
  • CCT in Community Child Health/CCST in Neurodisability or Level 3 Community Child Health competencies’
  • ADOS practitioner

Experience / Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Working within an MDT setting specifically with regard to diagnosing autism in preschool children
  • Knowledge of working with children with a range of neurodevelopmental conditions
  • Safeguarding medicals
Desirable criteria
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the challenges facing the service
  • Demonstrable knowledge of the environment in which the service needs to be delivered

Skills and aptitudes

Essential criteria
  • Clinical capability in the required specialty / subspecialty
  • Demonstrable commitment to multidisciplinary & multiagency teamworking
  • Trained in Developmental assessment
  • Trained in Diagnostic tools for assessment of Autism
  • Supervision of trainees
Desirable criteria
  • Aptitude for teaching and training
