Job overview

We are looking for an enthusiastic and suitably qualified individual who would like the opportunity to work in a supported learning environment to develop the skills and knowledge to complete their qualification and become a qualified Cardiac Physiologist. You will undertake a training scheme over 3 years in a joint venture between London North West  University NHS Trust and University of Middlesex (Hendon Campus). You will be studying towards an AHCS accredited degree in Healthcare Science (Cardiology) alongside a structured on-the job training program. University fees and education costs will be covered by the Trust via the national Apprenticeship levy. The apprenticeship delivery is based around 2 days a week during term weeks at the university campus (Middlesex University) .The remainder of the time the candidate will be based at Northwick Park Hospital. 
The busy Cardiac Physiology department at Northwick Park Hospital offers a range of Cardiac investigations including, ECG, Holter monitoring and analysis, Exercise stress testing, pacemaker follow-up and implants, Angiography and echocardiography. The department has a long history in providing training for Student Cardiac Physiologist. Students are supported by educational leads and trained Cardiac Physiologist. Your working week will be Monday to Friday 9am until 5pm however some flexibility may be required due to clinical and university placements. 

Main duties of the job

Educational

  • To undertake a development programme leading to a National Standard/ Framework 
    as part of an apprenticeship.
  • To actively participate in their own development plan, to be agreed with the line manager and the training provider.
  • Complete the Apprenticeships Standard/Framework within the agreed timescales. 
  •  To provide the correct up to date information to patients, colleagues, other departments within the Trust, external organisations and the general public.

Clinical

  • Under supervision actively participate in performing a range of cardiac investigations to include; ECGs, Holter and extended monitoring and analysis, Exercise stress tests, pacemaker follow-up, pacemaker implants and Haemodynamic monitoring for a range of invasive cathlab procedures.

Policy and Service Responsibility

  •  Perform cardiac physiological measurements in accordance with SCST/RCCP
    National Guidelines with appropriate supervision.
  • To ensure high standards of patient care are given in relation to agreed standards and in line with Trust Policies and Procedures
  • Manage workload to enable successful completion of all University set work and work based training portfolio within agreed time limits.
    Information Technology and Administrative Duties
  •  Ensure documentation is maintained consistently and clearly to support the provision 
    of care.
