Job overview
The post will be based in the department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. There will be an average of 8 PAs of direct clinical care (including out-of-hours work), and 2 PAs allocated for supporting professional activities (SPA). As a senior employee of the Trust, you will work in close cooperation with, and support, clinical, medical, professional, and managerial colleagues in delivering high-quality, safe healthcare to patients. The postholder will also be expected to contribute to the Trust’s strategic aim of expanding specialist services, including a dedicated vulval service as part of gynaecology outpatient care.
Integral to these responsibilities is the following:

The provision of a first-class service.

Effective leadership to all staff engaged in the specialty.

Active involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and training.

Undertaking all work in accordance with Trust policies and procedures, including the Code of Behaviour.

Conducting clinical practice in accordance with contractual requirements and within the parameters of Homerton’s business plans.

Contributing to the management of the clinical service and service development.
Main duties of the job
-
Provide a consultant-led outpatient service in general gynaecology, with a subspecialty focus in one or more of the following: vulval disease, urogynaecology, hysteroscopy, acute gynaecology, cancer diagnostics, or colposcopy. A particular emphasis will be placed on developing and delivering a high-quality vulval service.

Support gynaecology operating lists, including cross-cover where required, to meet increasing service demand.

Deliver obstetric care, including antenatal clinics and elective caesarean sections.

Participate in the consultant first-on-call rota (1 in 8 weekdays); no weekend on-call, but with commitment to weekend clinics/day surgery on a 1 in 7 basis.

Work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team (MDT) and contribute to the ongoing development of the Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Fertility services.

Take an active role in clinical governance, training of junior doctors, nurses, and midwives, and contribute to service improvement initiatives, including GIRFT and outpatient transformation.

Fulfil a 10 PA job plan with full clinic templates and on-site presence, responsive to evolving service needs.

Contribute to the Trust’s key performance indicators, patient experience targets, and capacity management within outpatient and theatre settings.
