An opportunity has arisen within the maternity service at The Hillingdon Hospital NHS Foundation Trust for a Maternity Quality, Governance, Assurance and Compliance Lead.

The post holder will be an exceptional leader with in-depth knowledge of maternity governance and assurance mechanisms and will lead on monitoring standards of a range of clinical governance, clinical effectiveness and patient safety activity, in liaison with other multidisciplinary professionals and speciality leads within the Maternity Team.

Main duties of the job

The post holder will inspire confidence and innovation amongst our incredible workforce who together, ensure the women/birthing people and staff are safe, cared for and listened too. They will work collaboratively with the Director of Midwifery, Head of Midwifery, Consultant Midwife, maternity matron, maternity managers, service managers, governance and education teams to provide seamless pathways of care and ensure a positive safety and team culture.

The aim of the role is to enhance the quality and safety of maternity care, showing leadership in the management of risk within the department and achieve consistency in practice, high standards of care and innovation with a strong patient safety focus. The post holder will support and contribute to the maternity department’s quality priorities – ensuring they are understood and translated across a range of teams and professional groups. These include CQC, Saving Babies Lives Care Bundle V3, Maternity Incentive Scheme standards and the Maternity and Neonatal 3 Year Delivery Plan.

The Hillingdon Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is the only acute Hospital in the London Borough of Hillingdon and offers a wide range of services including accident and emergency, inpatient care, day surgery, outpatient clinics and maternity services. The Trust’s services at Mount Vernon Hospital include routine day surgery, delivered at a modern treatment centre, a minor injuries unit and outpatient clinics.

Essential criteria
  • First Degree or equivalent experience in a relevant specialised role
  • Master’s degree or equivalent level of experience in a highly specialised role
  • Training/learning which demonstrates highly developed professional knowledge / continuing professional development
  • Recognised qualification in the field of quality assurance, compliance and governance or relevant experience
  • Trained in PSIRF (Patient Safety Incident Response Framework)
  • Experience of staff management, able to persuade and influence and handle conflict utilising the principles of compassionate and inclusive leadership
  • Strong evidence of service development and successful change management
  • Understanding of principles of safety, quality assurance and governance framework pertinent to maternity services
  • Up to date knowledge and understanding of current Clinical Governance/Risk Management issues
  • Experience of audit and research across a range of platforms
  • Experience of writing high quality reports relating to quality, safety and performance
  • Experience of working in partnership with a multi-disciplinary team
  • Experience of delivering teaching programmes
  • Demonstrable evidence of leading on delivery, design and implementation of service/quality improvement initiatives
Desirable criteria
  • Trained in SEIPS with ability to analyse aggregated management systems
  • Recognised Leadership/management qualification.
