Job overview

Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust is seeking to make a part-time appointment to this post working with Stockport Drug and Alcohol Service (SDAS), the established substance misuse service in Stockport. The appointee will provide the clinical management of people with substance misuse dependencies. They will deliver clinical leadership across the team and support all aspects of service planning and evaluation

Main duties of the job

Clinical

  • To provide specialist medical assessment to new clients.
  • To provide medical reviews to existing clients
  • To initiate clients onto OST or relapse prevention medication and review their ongoing treatment.
  • To provide advice and guidance to the service team regarding medical or clinical issues, and to ensure best practice is provided in line with national, organisational, and local standards.
  • Ensure service users are involved in decisions on their care and respond to their views
  • To support community detoxifications for service users where clinically indicated.
  • Multi-disciplinary, multi-agency and partnership working.

Other Duties

  • Undertake administrative duties associated with the care of service users.
  • Record clinical activity accurately and comprehensively.
  • Participate in service and business planning and development activity.
  • Contribute to performance monitoring and evaluation processes.
  • Ensure the maintenance of standards of practice according to the employer and any regulating, professional and accrediting bodies, e.g. NICE guidance, DOH Clinical Guidelines etc. and keep up to date on new recommendations/ guidelines.
  • Maintain professional registration with the GMC and a license to practice.
  • Work with the senior staff team to ensure the efficient running of the service.

The service has a holistic approach to treatment, for people whose lives have been adversely affected by substance misuse. We offer a range of treatment options including substitute prescribing, detoxification programs, and psychosocial interventions. 

We are looking for a GP who has a special interest in working in the drug and alcohol treatment field.  A person who can provide clinical leadership for the service, and for the people living in the vibrant communities we serve. 

Stockport is a progressive borough with a population of 297100 (ONS 2022). Significant investment is being put into urban regeneration, although the borough also has some of the highest areas of social deprivation nationally. Education/Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Primary Medical Degree Section 12 approval and Approved Clinician Status.
Desirable criteria
  • Section 12 approval MRCPsych or Equivalent Any additional postgraduate qualifications, especially in substance misuse.

Eligibility

Essential criteria
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment Included on the GMC Specialist Register OR within six months.
Desirable criteria
  • In good standing with GMC with respect to warning and conditions of practise Approved Clinician status OR able to achieve within 3 months of appointment

Transport

Essential criteria
  • Holds and will use valid UK driving license OR provides evidence of proposed alternative.

Clinical Skills/ Knowledge/ Experience

Essential criteria
  • Ability to assess, diagnose and manage medical/psychiatric problems in people presenting with drug and alcohol problems, and to deal with crisis situations. Evidence of effective multidisciplinary team involvement. Awareness of current issues in mental health and drug and alcohol service provision, policy and legislation. An understanding of the importance of clinical governance in healthcare organisations and its importance to client care.
Desirable criteria
  • Knowledge and evidence of participation in CPD. Evidence of specific achievements that demonstrate leadership skills Motivational skills.
