Job overview

The post is for a full time Consultant Anaesthetist with a special interest in Upper GI to work in conjunction with 72 Consultants, 9 Specialist, 7 Staff Grade 13 Speciality doctors. To provide a comprehensive anaesthetic service to the University Hospital of North Midlands NHS Trust.  The selected candidate will be responsible for providing and maintaining a safe, robust anaesthetic service and will have a wide knowledge in all aspects of anaesthesia.  Investing in the health and wellbeing of our staff is really important to us. Main duties of the job

To actively engage and participate in the delivery of a safe and effective Anaesthetic Services at the University Hospital of North Midlands (Royal Stoke University Hospital and County Hospital).

To cover  Upper GI, General/Urology and CEPOD.

To actively participate in clinical governance and quality improvement activities in the department

To actively participate in teaching, training and supervision of anaesthetic trainees and medical students from Keele Medical School.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To cover Vascular, General/Urology/CEPOD and Pre-assessment sessions for routine work and on call activities to cover CEPOD / Trauma / Maternity as on call consultant at Royal Stoke University hospital at UHNM NHS Trust.

Person specification

Professional Values and Behaviours, Skills and Knowledge

Essential criteria
  • MBBS or MBChB
  • CCT or CESR
  • Demonstrates the professional values and behaviours set out in Good Medical Practice Provides safe and effective general and regional anaesthesia, and procedural sedation, independently for all patients
  • Demonstrated ability to manage patients with complex needs whilst remaining aware of their own limitations
  • Communicates effectively with patients, relatives and carers, placing them at the centre of the care pathway
  • Previous experience working in the NHS
  • Adheres to professional requirements participating in annual appraisal, job planning and reviews of performance and progression.
Desirable criteria
  • Evidence to support the experience of independently managing major vascular surgery.
  • Evidence to support the experience of service development activities for Pre-assessment services surgery.
  • Skills and experience in contributions for the service development and service improvement projects.
  • Fellowship or advanced training for perioperative medicine.
  • Evidence and interest to develop simulation session for teaching and training.
