Job overview

UHNM are looking for a Locum Consultant in Ophthalmology to cover maternity leave . The successful candidate will have a specialist interest in Medical Retina and Uveitis. They will be working with the Ophthalmology Consultants who provide a first class service. The Ophthalmology team undertake both surgical and clinical work following the surge of clinical activity and support the reduction of the backlog. Work will be based at both the Royal Stoke and County Hospitals.

Main duties of the job

To provide an exceptional level of care for our patients presenting with Ophthalmic problems in an outpatient environment. The appointee will join the existing Ophthalmology Consultants to:

·         Support a comprehensive outpatient service within Ophthalmology

·         Treat patients with Ophthalmic conditions

·         Continue clinical responsibility for patients in your charge

·         Work with colleagues in other professions and support inter-disciplinary work

·         Triage patients and safely discharge patients, when appropriate

 

The job plan will be agreed with the successful candidates and will be based on a 8 PA working week.

 The appointed candidate would be expected to engage with the Ophthalmology Department delivery.

 Scheduling of sessions is by mutual agreement. Opportunities exist for flexible working, extended working day and expanding weekend working.

 Any applicant who is unable, for personal reasons, to work full-time will be eligible to be considered for the post.  If such a person is appointed, modification of the job content will be discussed on a personal basis with the Trust in consultation with consultant colleagues.

Qualifications

Essential criteria
  • Full GMC registration with licence to practice.
  • Completed at least 12 years full time postgraduate training (or equivalent gained on part time basis) or have equivalent experience and competencies

Experience

Essential criteria
  • Appropriate experience and competencies as defined in the basic and higher specialist training curriculum of the Royal College of Ophthalmologists or demonstrate evidence of sound Ophthalmic training equivalent to that recognised in the UK. Recognised sub-speciality training in Uveitis and MR
