Job overview

We are pleased to offer an opportunity  for a friendly and flexible Security Officer to join our small team at Wansbeck General Hospital.

Full time hours are available (equivalent to 37.5 hrs per week), however, we would also be willing for this position to be split between two candidates as a 50 / 50 job share (equivalent to 18.75 hrs per week)

The successful candidate(s) will  provide a security service to the hospital and grounds, protecting people and property and detecting and preventing crime. To manage the Trust’s car parks, dealing with illegally parked vehicles and ensuring safe access and egress from site. 

The successful candidate(s) should be physically fit and have excellent communication skills to enable them to interact calmly and professionally with patients, staff and visitors.

Main duties of the job

The Security department at Northumbria Specialist Emergency Care Hospital provide a variety of services to patients and departments, including maintaining a safe environment for patients and staff, the provision of a high quality, efficient customer orientated Security service and compliance with the Trust Patient Confidentiality Policy.

The post will be subject to a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

To provide a comprehensive Security service to all Wards and
Departments on site to be flexible in approach to work and undertake other duties that are assigned under the role. To provide a security service to the hospital and grounds, protecting people and property and detecting and preventing crime. To manage the Trust’s car parks, dealing with illegally parked vehicles and ensuring safe access and egress from site. 

This post is required to work on a  Rota working 12 hour shifts with a 1 hour un-paid break.

Essential criteria
  • General education
  • A recognised qualification issued by the Security Industry Authority, will, if not currently held, be expected to be worked towards and gained within 12 months of appointment.

Experience and knowledge

Essential criteria
  • Conflict resolution/Physical intervention techniques.
Desirable criteria
  • Previous experience in a similar role
