Job overview

The postholder will:

  • Provide an efficient and high-quality clinical coding service by accurate and timely coding of complex case-mix inpatient Spells for all Trust Specialties.
  • Act as expert Clinical Coder by liaising with Clinicians and Specialty Leads for queries related to source documentation and to validate coding where additional expertise is required to maximise income.

Main duties of the job

·         To abstract highly complex clinical information from Trust Millenium EPR, BadgerNet system  and translate into accurate and complete ICD-10 and OPCS codes, adhering constantly to national coding standards and mandatory monthly timescales.

·         To continuously demonstrate a high understanding of national coding standards and to communicate complex rules, conventions and key terms to Clinicians and Divisional Managers.

  • To independently organise personal workload, without direct supervision, ensuring all relevant admitted care episodes are coded within the monthly deadlines in preparation for financial assessment and external submission.

    ·         Achieve Data Security & Protection Toolkit mandatory coding accuracy marks in clinical coding audits.

    ·         To validate complex clinical data and procedures with Clinicians to assure depth of coding for accurate payment.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The Trust is seeking to employ Specialist Clinical Coding staff to join our well established team. We have a hybrid working pattern, mostly working remotely with the requirement to work onsite  one day per month for team meetings and any other days, as designated by senior digital leadership. This post attracts £3000/annum Recruitment and Retention Premia.
